WHOLE BODY HEALTH
Wellness
Wellness is an active pursuit of an optimal state of physical and emotional well-being; involving intentions, choices, and actions. Wellness is both holistic and preventative. It extends beyond physical health to include mental, environmental, spiritual, and social dimensions. It is an active process that involves being aware of making choices actively instead of reactively, and taking actions that lead toward positive health outcomes in all dimensions of life. It is, from our perspective, the very definition of the type of dynamic and comprehensive approach to mental health treatment and maintenance that would prepare an individual for the lifelong process of understanding their emotional self and taking care of their mental health while pursuing optimal well-being.
Spiritual
The spiritual aspect of whole body wellness emphasizes the importance of cultivating a sense of purpose, meaning, and connection in life. It recognizes that our physical, mental, and emotional health are interconnected with our spiritual well-being, and that neglecting our spiritual needs can have negative consequences on our overall health. Spiritual wellness involves exploring and embracing our beliefs, values, and sense of purpose, as well as developing practices that promote inner peace and connection with something greater than ourselves.
Environment
The environmental aspect of whole body wellness refers to the physical, chemical, and biological factors that exist outside a person and can affect their health and well-being. This includes factors such as air and water quality, exposure to toxins and pollutants, access to green spaces and natural environments, and the quality of the built environment which can effect both mental and physical health. By paying attention to and taking steps to improve the environmental factors that influence our health, we can reduce the risk of environmental hazards and promote a healthier and more sustainable environment for ourselves and future generations.
Social
Healthy social relationships, including family, friends, and community connections, are essential for mental and emotional well-being. They provide support, a sense of belonging, and opportunities for personal growth and development. The ability to adapt and feel comfortable in different social situations is also important, as it can lead to new experiences, connections, and opportunities. This aspect of wellness includes developing social skills, building strong relationships, and finding a sense of community, all of which can contribute to a greater sense of happiness and overall well-being.
Mind
A healthy mind can positively impact all other aspects of wellness, including physical health, social connections, and spiritual well-being. Practices such as mindfulness, meditation, and cognitive-behavioral therapy can support the mind aspect of wellness by promoting self-awareness, reducing stress, and improving emotional regulation. By prioritizing mental health and well-being, we can improve our ability to navigate life’s challenges and experience greater overall well-being.
Body
This encompasses the nervous system, brain, endocrine system, musculoskeletal system, and gastrointestinal system, all of which work together to support optimal health. The nervous system and brain are responsible for communication throughout the body and play a key role in regulating mood, behavior, and cognitive function. The endocrine system regulates hormones and metabolism, while the musculoskeletal system supports physical movement and posture. The gastrointestinal system plays a key role in digestion, absorption of nutrients, and immune function. By supporting the health of these systems through regular physical activity, a balanced diet, and proper self-care, we can improve our overall physical health and well-being.
